Smith Mountain Lake and Central Virginia
Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 8-5 is an active, all volunteer organization that
assists the U.S. Coast Guard with civil responsibilities:
- Patrolling Federal and State waterways
- Conducting search and rescues
- Encouraging safe water practices
- Teaching free boating safety courses
- Providing boating safety information to marine dealers
- Performing free Vessel Safety Checks
- Verifying aids to navigation chart updating
